Group Leader experience

Before taking your troop abroad, it’s helpful to learn what’s expected of you as a Group Leader.

Set expectations for good behavior
It’s up to you to ensure that girls have the appropriate conduct on tour. Before departure, set clear expectations around good behavior (curfew, rules regarding drinking, etc.). It’s your responsibility to take disciplinary action if rules are broken.

Stay with your group at all times
You must accompany girls at all times, including meals, sightseeing excursions, and wherever you go on tour.

Stay behind in an emergency
In the case of illness, accident, lost passport, etc., it may be necessary for you to stay behind with one of the girls. You must ensure that the rest of the group is accompanied by a responsible adult.

Meet with other Group Leaders
When you arrive, you’ll meet with the other Group Leaders on your tour to discuss your goals for the trip, as well as rules and regulations.

Assist with room assignments
Your Tour Director may need your help upon arrival at each hotel, as rooming assignments may change from one hotel to the next.

Enjoy a FREE training abroad
As part of our special orientation for first-time Group Leaders, we'll send you on a Free International Training Tour*, exclusive to Girl Scout leaders, to Paris, Rome, or Madrid. It's a great way for you to prepare for your trip, since you’ll get to talk with other Girl Scout leaders, EF staff and experienced Group Leaders.

*Available only to Group Leaders who are leading international tours.

Hear from girls and volunteers. Read their stories.

What a wonderful experience our troop had on our Journey for Girl Scouts! Meeting girls from other states and Girl Guides from other countries gave us an opportunity to be "sisters" to each other.
